Christmas Courses - HO HO HO!!

We held our first Christmas Cupcakes Class of 2010 on Saturday.  What fun!! Everyone got into the spirit by wearing a Christmas hat and Christmas tunes were softly playing in the background.

Although it's still a little bit early to be getting into the full Christmas spirit I have to say that the course did feel quite special.  Everyone decorated some wonderful cupcakes and I can only imagine the delight on the faces of their families when they got home.

Cupcakes are so quick and easy to make (we'll give you a recipe on the course and as much help as we can!!) and they make such a wonderful gift.

There are always people at Christmas who you would really like to give a gift to but struggle to know what to buy.  A box of homemade seasonal cupcakes not only looks great and tastes divine but also shows that you care enough to take the time to make something special.

So why not book on to one of the remaining courses and come along and learn a new skill or just gather some new ideas!!

At the moment we have places left on the following classes;

Saturday 27th November 9.30-12.30pm  - available for a group booking
Saturday 4th December 3-6pm - available for a group booking

We look forward to seeing you

Wilton Method of Cake Decorating

The Wilton Method of Cake Decorating is known the world over as a great way to get started in cake decorating!  In fact, it's exactly how our founder, Vicki Hoskins, got started.

The Wilton Method originates from the USA where you will find classes far and wide.  Here in the UK it's a little harder to find local classes and that probably explains why our classes book up as fast as we can book them in.

In January 2011 the all-new Wilton Classes are being launched in the UK (after having been launched in the US in the summer of 2010) and Mums Who Bake will be amongst the first cake decorating schools to run them.

Anyone can learn to decorate cakes & cookies the Wilton way.  Each 4 week course comes with a fantastic workbook that has everything you need to know inside (it will make a great reference book for years to come).  You don't need to have any cake decorating experience to come along to the first level as the course is designed for absolute beginners and above.

The first course, Decorating Basics, is your starting point.  This covers topics such as the fundamentals of baking a cake, making the icing and using a piping bag.  Then, over the next few weeks you will learn how to pipe stars, borders, flowers and messages.

Once you have completed this course you can then move on to either (or both) of the next classes:

Flowers and Cake Design and Gum Paste and Fondant.

At Mums Who Bake our first course of the New Year will be Gum Paste and Fondant (which is also open to anyone who has completed the now redundant level 1 Wilton).  This course will take a look at how to cover a cake using Sugarpaste (fondant), making sugarpaste bows, borders and gum paste flowers.  You'll be amazed at how easy it is to produce simply stunning results.

If you're looking for a great course to give you confidence piping and making simple cake decorations then this is definitely the course for you!!  Take a look at our website for details of our next courses (held in Castlethorpe, Milton Keynes).  Alternatively if you can't see a course that suits you then please email us and we can update you as soon as new dates are added.

Happy Baking xx

Welcome Cake Fans!!

Welcome to the new Mums Who Bake blog.

We will be keeping you updated here on all of our new courses and products as well as giving advice, how to guides and Special Offers.

Mums Who Bake was established in 2008 with the aim of offering help and advice to everyone who loves cake decorating.

Cake decorating and the equipment you need can seem confusing when you're first starting out.  Our aim is to show that with a little bit of knowledge anyone can create fantastic results.  We are happy to share all of our hints and tips, give you ideas and to tell you which products you need to create the results you desire.

If you are not sure about something then just ask! It's why we're here.

Over the years we have met, on our courses, so many wonderful people who all share a passion for cake decorating.  Many of our courses attendees are absolute beginners but they leave with the realisation that they can create amazing results with just a few pieces of key equipment and some shared ideas.

Follow us here and on our Facebook page to see what we're getting up to and, more importantly, to share your home baking experiences.  We love seeing pictures of what you're all creating and we're always happy to help if you have any queries about products.

There is no greater gift than taking the time to bake and decorating some cupcakes, cookies or a cake for someone you care about!

Mums Who Bake is not just for mums - it's for anyone who loves baking!  So everyone is welcome!
