The Wilton Method of Cake Decorating is known the world over as a great way to get started in cake decorating! In fact, it's exactly how our founder, Vicki Hoskins, got started.
The Wilton Method originates from the USA where you will find classes far and wide. Here in the UK it's a little harder to find local classes and that probably explains why our classes book up as fast as we can book them in.
In January 2011 the all-new Wilton Classes are being launched in the UK (after having been launched in the US in the summer of 2010) and Mums Who Bake will be amongst the first cake decorating schools to run them.
Anyone can learn to decorate cakes & cookies the Wilton way. Each 4 week course comes with a fantastic workbook that has everything you need to know inside (it will make a great reference book for years to come). You don't need to have any cake decorating experience to come along to the first level as the course is designed for absolute beginners and above.
The first course, Decorating Basics, is your starting point. This covers topics such as the fundamentals of baking a cake, making the icing and using a piping bag. Then, over the next few weeks you will learn how to pipe stars, borders, flowers and messages.
Once you have completed this course you can then move on to either (or both) of the next classes:
Flowers and Cake Design and Gum Paste and Fondant.
At Mums Who Bake our first course of the New Year will be Gum Paste and Fondant (which is also open to anyone who has completed the now redundant level 1 Wilton). This course will take a look at how to cover a cake using Sugarpaste (fondant), making sugarpaste bows, borders and gum paste flowers. You'll be amazed at how easy it is to produce simply stunning results.
If you're looking for a great course to give you confidence piping and making simple cake decorations then this is definitely the course for you!! Take a look at our website for details of our next courses (held in Castlethorpe, Milton Keynes). Alternatively if you can't see a course that suits you then please email us and we can update you as soon as new dates are added.
Happy Baking xx
